What You'll Learn
This course prepares you for the SAA-C03 certification exam, covering all official exam domains and their approximate weightings:
Domain 1 Content Domain 1: Design Secure Architectures (30%)
- Design secure access to AWS resources (IAM users/groups/roles/policies, MFA, role-based access, multi-account strategy with AWS Control Tower/SCPs, federated identity)
- Design secure workloads and applications (VPC security components, security groups, NACLs, AWS Shield, AWS WAF, Secrets Manager, secure external network connections via VPN/Direct Connect)
- Determine appropriate data security controls (encryption at rest with AWS KMS, encryption in transit with ACM/TLS, key rotation, data backup/replication, access policies for encryption keys)
- Apply the AWS shared responsibility model and security best practices (principle of least privilege)
- Align AWS technologies to meet compliance, data retention, and classification requirements
Domain 2 Content Domain 2: Design Resilient Architectures (26%)
- Design scalable and loosely coupled architectures (microservices, event-driven patterns, queuing/messaging with SQS, API Gateway, load balancing, containers with ECS/EKS, serverless with Lambda/Fargate)
- Determine scaling strategies (horizontal vs vertical scaling) and appropriate use of caching and read replicas
- Design highly available and/or fault-tolerant architectures across Availability Zones and Regions (Route 53, multi-AZ design, immutable infrastructure)
- Select and implement disaster recovery strategies (backup and restore, pilot light, warm standby, active-active failover, RPO/RTO)
- Implement designs that mitigate single points of failure and ensure data durability/availability (backups, replication)
- Use purpose-built AWS services and automation to improve reliability of legacy and cloud-native workloads
Domain 3 Content Domain 3: Design High-Performing Architectures (24%)
- Determine high-performing and/or scalable storage solutions (S3, EFS, EBS, hybrid storage)
- Design high-performing and elastic compute solutions (EC2 instance types/Auto Scaling, Lambda, Fargate, container orchestration with ECS/EKS)
- Determine high-performing database solutions (engine and type selection, read replicas, caching with ElastiCache, capacity planning)
- Determine high-performing and/or scalable network architectures (CloudFront, Global Accelerator, load balancing, network topology design)
- Determine high-performing data ingestion and transformation solutions (Kinesis streaming, Glue transformation, DataSync/Storage Gateway transfer, Athena/Lake Formation analytics)
Domain 4 Content Domain 4: Design Cost-Optimized Architectures (20%)
- Design cost-optimized storage solutions (S3 storage tiering/lifecycle policies, backup and archival strategy, cost-effective storage service selection)
- Design cost-optimized compute solutions (Spot/Reserved Instances, Savings Plans, right-sizing instance families, serverless and container cost optimization)
- Design cost-optimized database solutions (choosing between DynamoDB/RDS/serverless, backup/retention policy design, database migration for cost)
- Design cost-optimized network architectures (NAT gateway strategy, Direct Connect vs VPN vs internet, minimizing data transfer costs, CDN/edge caching)
- Use AWS cost management tools (Cost Explorer, Budgets, Cost and Usage Report, cost allocation tags) to inform design decisions
