This course prepares you for the PL-400 certification exam, covering all official exam domains and their approximate weightings:

Domain 1 Create a technical design (12.5%)

  • Analyze technical architecture to identify solution components and implementation approach
  • Design authentication and authorization strategy for solution components
  • Determine whether requirements can be met with out-of-the-box functionality
  • Determine where to implement business logic (cloud computing, client-side, business rules, plug-ins, Power Automate)
  • Determine when to use standard, virtual, or elastic tables vs. connectors
  • Assess impact of Power Platform security features (DLP, security roles, teams, business units, row sharing) and design reusable components, custom connectors, Dataverse code components, automations, and integrations

Domain 2 Build Power Platform solutions (12.5%)

  • Troubleshoot operational security issues
  • Configure Dataverse security roles to support code components (least privilege)
  • Manage Power Platform environments for development
  • Manage solution dependencies and solution layers
  • Create and use environment variables
  • Implement/extend Power Platform Pipelines and CI/CD automations using Power Platform Build Tools

Domain 3 Implement Power Apps improvements (12.5%)

  • Implement complex Power Fx formulas and functions
  • Build reusable component libraries
  • Utilize Power Automate cloud flows to implement business logic from a canvas app
  • Troubleshoot canvas and model-driven app issues using Monitor and browser-based debugging tools
  • Optimize canvas app performance (pre-loading data, query delegation)
  • Optimize model-driven app performance (forms and views)

Domain 4 Extend the user experience (12.5%)

  • Build JavaScript code targeting the Client API object model and determine event handler registration approach
  • Create client scripting that targets the Dataverse Web API
  • Configure commands and buttons using Power Fx and JavaScript; implement navigation to custom pages
  • Demonstrate use of PCF component lifecycle events and configure a component manifest
  • Implement component interfaces and package/deploy/consume a PCF component
  • Configure and use Device, Utility, and Web API features in PCF component logic

Domain 5 Extend the platform (32.5%)

  • Create a Dataverse plug-in: execution pipeline stages, execution context, Pre/Post Images, Organization service operations, custom API messages, Plug-in Registration Tool, business events
  • Create custom connectors: Open API definitions, authentication, policy templates, Azure Function integration, data transformation
  • Use platform APIs: Dataverse Web API, Organization service, API limit retry policies, OAuth authentication, performance/concurrency/bulk operations
  • Process workloads with Azure Functions: long-running operations, scheduled/event-driven triggers, managed identity authentication
  • Configure Power Automate cloud flows: Dataverse connector actions/triggers, complex expressions, Azure Key Vault, error handling, trigger filters/retry policies, child flows, Entra ID service principals

Domain 6 Develop integrations (12.5%)

  • Publish a Dataverse event using IServiceEndpointNotificationService or the Plug-in Registration Tool
  • Register service endpoints including webhooks, Azure Service Bus, and Azure Event Hub
  • Recommend options for listening to Dataverse events
  • Perform data synchronization using change tracking
  • Develop code that utilizes alternate keys
