What You'll Learn
This course prepares you for the PL-500 certification exam, covering all official exam domains and their approximate weightings:
Domain 1 Design automations (27.5%)
- Differentiate between cloud flows and desktop flows and choose the right trigger types / run methods (attended vs unattended, concurrency)
- Design automations using other Power Platform features: canvas/model-driven apps, connectors, custom connectors, connection references, and Microsoft Dataverse
- Design automations that analyze and enhance data and documents: Microsoft AI options, OCR capabilities, Document Automation Toolkit
- Design automations using scripting languages in desktop flows: PowerShell, VBScript, JavaScript, and DOM manipulation
- Assess whether work queues are applicable and design custom actions
Domain 2 Develop automations (47.5%)
- Develop cloud flows: call desktop flows, use child flows (pass/return data), call external APIs, implement trigger conditions, concurrency, timeout/retry, data operations, and text parsing (JSON/XML/CSV)
- Develop desktop flows: UI options, datatables/lists/custom objects, subflows, external API calls, timeout/retry, data operations, text parsing, and custom actions
- Implement logic in cloud and desktop flows: flow control/loops, expressions, variables, secure input/output, priority in a queue, exception handling and business-error handling, work queues
- Build custom connectors and implement connector configurations: authentication, policy templates, and code
- Perform automation infrastructure management: credential management, on-premises data gateway, and Dataverse solution components
- Test and finalize automations: test cloud/desktop flows, use environment variables/configuration files, and debugging features
Domain 3 Deploy and manage automations (22.5%)
- Prepare target environments: implement Power Platform ALM, differentiate credentials per environment, and build virtual desktop environments for unattended runs
- Assess Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies and how they impact cloud/desktop flow actions and custom connectors
- Implement access to RPA components: sharing flows/machines/machine groups, security roles, service accounts and service principals
- Implement machine groups and queues: machine/machine-group registration and management, load balancing via machine groups and queues, run-queue operations
- Analyze cloud and desktop flow run history from the Power Automate portal for monitoring and support
