What You'll Learn
This course prepares you for the 200-301 certification exam, covering all official exam domains and their approximate weightings:
Domain 1 Network Fundamentals (20%)
- Explain the role and function of network components (routers, L2/L3 switches, next-gen firewalls/IPS, access points, controllers, endpoints, servers, PoE)
- Describe network topology architectures (two-tier, three-tier, spine-leaf, WAN, SOHO, on-premises and cloud)
- Configure and verify IPv4 addressing/subnetting and IPv6 addressing/prefix, including IPv6 address types
- Compare TCP to UDP; compare physical interface and cabling types and identify interface/cable issues
- Explain virtualization fundamentals (server virtualization, containers, VRFs) and describe switching concepts (MAC learning/aging, frame switching/flooding, MAC address table)
- Describe wireless principles (nonoverlapping Wi-Fi channels, SSID, RF, encryption)
Domain 2 Network Access (20%)
- Configure and verify VLANs (normal range) spanning multiple switches, including access ports and InterVLAN connectivity
- Configure and verify interswitch connectivity (trunk ports, 802.1Q, native VLAN) and Layer 2 discovery protocols (CDP, LLDP)
- Configure and verify Layer 2/Layer 3 EtherChannel (LACP)
- Interpret basic operations of Rapid PVST+ Spanning Tree Protocol (root port/bridge, port states/roles, PortFast, root guard/loop guard/BPDU filter/BPDU guard)
- Describe Cisco Wireless Architectures, AP modes, and physical infrastructure connections of WLAN components (AP, WLC, access/trunk ports, LAG)
- Describe network device management access (Telnet, SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, console, TACACS+/RADIUS, cloud managed) and interpret wireless LAN GUI configuration for client connectivity
Domain 3 IP Connectivity (25%)
- Interpret the components of a routing table (routing protocol code, prefix, network mask, next hop, administrative distance, metric, gateway of last resort)
- Determine how a router makes a forwarding decision by default (longest prefix match, administrative distance, routing protocol metric)
- Configure and verify IPv4 and IPv6 static routing (default, network, host, floating static routes)
- Configure and verify single area OSPFv2 (neighbor adjacencies, point-to-point, broadcast DR/BDR selection, router ID)
- Describe the purpose, functions, and concepts of first hop redundancy protocols
Domain 4 IP Services (10%)
- Configure and verify inside source NAT using static and pools
- Configure and verify NTP in client and server mode, and DHCP client/relay
- Explain the role of DHCP and DNS, and the function of SNMP, within the network
- Describe the use of syslog features including facilities and severity levels
- Explain forwarding per-hop behavior (PHB) for QoS (classification, marking, queuing, congestion, policing, shaping)
- Configure network devices for remote access using SSH; describe TFTP/FTP capabilities
Domain 5 Security Fundamentals (15%)
- Define key security concepts (threats, vulnerabilities, exploits, mitigation techniques) and security program elements (user awareness, training, physical access control)
- Configure and verify device access control using local passwords and security password policy elements (MFA, certificates, biometrics)
- Describe IPsec remote access and site-to-site VPNs
- Configure and verify access control lists and Layer 2 security features (DHCP snooping, dynamic ARP inspection, port security)
- Compare authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) concepts
- Describe wireless security protocols (WPA, WPA2, WPA3) and configure/verify WLAN within the GUI using WPA2 PSK
Domain 6 Automation and Programmability (10%)
- Explain how automation impacts network management; compare traditional networks with controller-based networking
- Describe controller-based, software-defined architecture (overlay, underlay, fabric; separation of control/data plane; northbound/southbound APIs)
- Explain AI (generative and predictive) and machine learning in network operations
- Describe characteristics of REST-based APIs (authentication types, CRUD, HTTP verbs, data encoding)
- Recognize the capabilities of configuration management mechanisms such as Ansible and Terraform
- Recognize components of JSON-encoded data
