What You'll Learn
This course prepares you for the TDA-C01 certification exam, covering all official exam domains and their approximate weightings:
Domain 1 Domain 1: Connect to and Transform Data (24%)
- Connect to data sources: choose appropriate source, live vs extract, relational databases, spreadsheets, .hyper/.tde files, custom SQL queries, Tableau Server data sources
- Prepare data for analysis: assess data quality (completeness, consistency, accuracy), perform cleaning operations, organize data into folders
- Use multiple data sources: establish relationships, create joins, union tables, blend data; use Data Interpreter, pivot, split; create extract filters
- Perform data transformation in Tableau Prep: unions, joins, aggregations, filtering, pivots based on business scenario
- Customize fields: change default field properties, rename columns, convert discrete/continuous and dimension/measure, create aliases
Domain 2 Domain 2: Explore and Analyze Data (41%)
- Create calculated fields: date calculations (DATEPARSE, DATENAME), string functions, logical/Boolean expressions, number functions, type conversion, aggregate functions, FIXED LOD calculations
- Create quick and custom table calculations: moving average, percent of total, running total, percentile, compound growth rate, year-to-date/month-to-date/year-over-year, index, ranking, first-last
- Create and use filters: apply to dimensions/measures, configure Top N/Bottom N/include/exclude/wildcard/conditional, context filters, apply across multiple sheets and data sources
- Create parameters to enable interactivity in calculations, filters, and reference lines
- Structure the data using sets, bins, hierarchies, and groups
- Map data geographically (symbol, heat, density, choropleth/filled maps) and use the Analytics feature (totals/subtotals, reference lines/bands, trend lines, forecasting, predictive models)
Domain 3 Domain 3: Create Content (26%)
- Create basic charts from scratch (bar, line, pie, highlight table, scatter plot, histogram, tree map, bubbles, Gantt, box plot, dual axis, combo) and sort data including custom sort
- Create dashboards and stories: combine sheets using containers and layout options, add objects, create stories
- Add interactivity to dashboards: filter/URL/highlight actions, sheet swapping via parameters or sheet selector, navigation buttons, user-guiding sentences
- Format dashboards: apply color/font/shapes/styling, custom shapes and color palettes, annotations, tooltips, padding, gridline/banding removal, responsive design for device layouts
Domain 4 Domain 4: Publish and Manage Content on Tableau Server and Tableau Online (9%)
- Publish content: publish a workbook, publish a data source, print content, export content
- Schedule data updates: schedule data extract refreshes, schedule a Tableau Prep workflow
- Manage published workbooks: create alerts, create subscriptions

Dr. Alvin Ang is a ACTA certified trainer. Dr. Alvin Ang did his Ph.D., Masters and Bachelors from NTU, Singapore. Previously he was a Principal Consultant (Data Science) as well as an Assistant Professor. He was also 8 years SUSS adjunct lecturer. His focus and interest is in the area of real world data science. Though an operational researcher by study, his passion for practical applications outweigh his academic background. He owns a startup externally.
