The Agile Design Thinking Experience- Working Together Better

When an organization embarks on an agile transformation journey, very often focus is given to enabling the skill at the technical (IT) level. The development teams are trained in various Agile practices and techniques. While development team is delivering the products / services at a faster speed, which is the main objective in many agile teams, it runs into risk of losing sight with the original business (users) intend and thus creating the (requirement) gap between business (users) and IT.

Design Thinking is a process for creative problem solving that focus on the people they are creating for. By following the process and using the supported methodologies it equips product team members with skills to sense the users / market needs. It is a human-centred approach, striking a balance among users, technologies and business. Design Thinking is there to bridge the gap between the user and business, and between the user and IT.

Course Objectives:

This workshop is designed to be a Design Thinking and Agile integrated course to equip participants with an overview knowledge of Design Thinking: experience how the Design Thinking process works and how the generated ideas get implemented using Agile development method.<?p>

It is a blended learning experience with mix of learning (videos, online learning and reading contents) and interactive hands-on group activities that allow participants to experience how Design Thinking process is applied using a real-life case study.

LEGO® Serious Paly® method are used to facilitate some of the interactive activities e.g. Persona Mapping.

Course Hightlights

  • Describe the basic tenets of Design Thinking – the definition, the mindsets and attributes of a Design Thinking
  • Distinguish different types of Design Thinking in relation to the real-life application – how do it relate to other frameworks like Lean and Agile
  • Apply the Design Thinking 5 Steps Process (Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototyping, Test) - methods and toolkits
  • Implement idea using the integrated Design Thinking and Agile methodology

All participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from Tertiary Courses after achieved at least 75% attendance.

Module 3: Use case study: Understand the challenge and users

  • Lesson 3.1 Obtaining a Challenge

  • Lesson 3.3 Introduction to Common Empathy methods: Interview, observation, user participatory workshop

Day 2

Module 4: Apply the 5 Stages of Design Thinking

  • Lesson 4.1 – Analyse information using Empathy Map, Customer Journey Map, Affinity Map
  • Lesson 4.2 – Synthesize information, reframe the Challenge, define customer Point Of View (POV), “How Might We” (HMW) Questions
  • Lesson 4.3 – Brainstorming generate ideas, select idea
  • Lesson 4.4 – Prototype idea. Types of prototyping methods
  • Lesson 4.5 - Test your prototype and collect feedback

Module 5: Evaluate and Implement idea using Agile Scrum

  • Lesson 5.1 – Evaluate Idea business case using Business Canvas
  • Lesson 5.2 – Agile Scrum overview
  • Lesson 5.3 – Agile artefact, Idea, Features, Stories and Tasks. Convert idea into Features

Design Thinking TrainerChoong Sin Fatt is a highly experienced Agile transformation consultant, adult educator, facilitator and curriculum designer. He has over 20 years of IT solution architect and 5 years of consulting experience in areas of Lean and Agile Management, Design Thinking.
Sin Fatt has significant experience in consulting training which includes design, development and delivery of Agile Transformation programs for numerous leading global organizations like Cathy Pacific Airways, Huawei, Standard Chartered Bank, UOB, OCBC, AmBank, True Ascend Thailand, Siam Commercial Bank.

Sin Fatt is also the founder of Noveltage Consulting – a training, consulting service provider that help organizations to redesign the way teams learn Agile with blended Design Thinking using the LEGO Serious Play method.

Sin Fatt is an ACTA certified trainer. He graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Physics from the National University Of Singapore.
