R Programming TrainerDr. Ravi Kumar Tiwari got his PhD from NUS (Chemical Engineering) in 2013. After graduation, he worked 3 years as a research scientist in the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC). He is currently a big data R data analyst in Rakuten. His core skills are R, big data, Hadoop and machine learning.

R TrainerDwight Nuwan Fonseka have a degree in Biotechnology (from NUS) ,Advanced diploma in Pharamceutical management (from MDIS) and Masters in Education (from NTU). He have 8 years experience of teaching biology at O and A levels/ IB level in international schools in Singapore and overseas.

R TrainerLisa Lee has her degree in Finance at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Prior to returning to Singapore, she worked as a financial analyst in a US-start up that sells business intelligence to dental offices. She was on the winning team for the Chicago Quantitative Alliance (CQA) Investment Challenge in 2015.Her core specialisation skills are R, Python, Machine Learning, Statistical Analysis, and Data Visualisation in Tableau and Qliksense. She currently works as a Data Science Instructor at a local university.

R TrainerDr. Wesley Goi is currently in his final year of his PhD in Bioinformatics at National University of Singapore (NUS) where he previously received his degree in Molecular Biology at NUS (Honours 2nd Uppers). He was the TA for Introductory Bioinformatics LSM2241. He specialises in analysing high throughput DNA and RNA sequencing data of complex microbial communities using network analyses and various functional analyses. In his previous projects he has applied machine learning methods to vaccine discovery.

R programming TrainerEric Goh is a seasoned Data Science Researcher and Software Engineer with years of experience in multiple industries. Eric Goh’s varied career includes data and text mining, intelligent systems development, IT project management, engineering product design and researches. During his free time, Eric teaches as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of the People. He also started SVBook.com, and developed his own data science software at DSTK.Tech. He holds a Master of Technology degree, Executive MBA degree, and a Graduate Diploma.

R Statistics TrainerHerman Tan is a certified Business Intelligence Professional by TDWI (The Data Warehouse Institute). He has developed analytics solution for businesses for the last 15 years. He is proficient in SQL, data management using Pentaho and Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and predictive analytics using open source tools mainly in R. Herman has conducted hands-on courses in R and Pentaho for Banking and Retail as well as instructor for NUS Masters of Science in Business Analytics program.

R Programming TrainerDr Brandon Ooi has a Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering and a PhD in Bioengineering from the National University of Singapore. He has published papers on machine learning, bioinformatics and microarray data analysis. He has six years of teaching experience at the polytechnic level and was also involved in the creation and teaching of modules for adult learners.

Big Data TrainerKannan Gopal has a Masters in Computer Applications with over 20 years of experience in creating, delivering and supporting, products, projects and program in the area of enterprise data ops and analytics. Lately he has been involved in the creation of the digital banking app and working on IoT to create smart organizations. His expertise is in using data tools for analysis and visualization to solve challenges in organizations that rely on data for strategic and tactical decisions. He has experience in Design Thinking (HCD- human centered design) techniques and in leading organizations in the quest of digital transformation with data as its core for decisions and information.

Through his career, he has also developed teams and trained / coached many consultants and developers on SAP BI and related products and worked extensively in Europe and Asia. Through his career, he has developed solutions in the area of data modeling, data analysis and analytics – application of tools and process for solving customer issues. While at SAP, his team has won numerous patents for developing and applying data mining methods to enterprise management systems.

His keen interest lies in sharing and collaborating with people on new technologies and to create best practices in the area of analytics.

R statistics TrainerAriff is a recent Graduate from Murdoch University in BSc in Business Information System and Management (Double Major). He is a MOE Registered Instructor teaching in most of the Information Technology and Multimedia aspects such as Web programmer, Mobile App Developer, Video director and editor, and game development and design (PC and Mobile). Besides Information Technology and Multimedia, he is also giving entrepreneurship, leadership workshops and motivation speech training.

He has a strong passion in IT and gaming design been since 2005. He is currently doing games design for his own project and continues to teach and share his knowledge. He still hungers for new skills to keep himself up to date as technology continues to change.

The instructor could have been more focused on course content rather than spending time on machine learning which I was not interested at all. The extra time could have been spent in going deep into technicalities of the the course itself rather than talking of new subjects. (Posted on 4/2/2018)

The hardcopy powerpoint handout we were given can be more detailed to minimise the content that we needed to copy down during the course and to facilitate future reference. It might be good to do the data analysis in a project based manner and provide some sample scripts for those commonly used projects.

Consider moving the stats section to the advanced course. This course can be focused on data manipulation including dplyr.

During the hands-on (challenge question) part, there is reference to certain slide number for the syntax relevant to that particular question.
